Single’s Night in Dublin

Looking for love in the big city can be a little daunting? There seem to be a zillion apps asking you to swipe all day long and meeting other singles who want to have some fun feels awkward when you don’t know where to go.

Luckily, there’s one spot in Phibs where at least once a month you’ll be able to have a bit of craic and meet up with other single people without one sniff of speed dating or blind dates in sight. The legendary Single’s nights are back at McGowans, and we’re ready to help locals make it easier to be single and mingle.

Meeting new people should be fun, lively and without the pressure of feeling like you’re on a date. If you’re up for it and want to see where Friday night takes you, you’ll have to come along to Dublin’s best singles night out.

Here is all the information you need to know about coming to Single’s Night at McGowans.

Where do singles meet in Dublin?

Upstairs, 18 Phibsboro Road Dublin 7 is where Dublin’s singles meet every other Friday. If you don’t know where that is (spoiler alert), it’s upstairs here at McGowans.

What is a single’s night?

This is a question we get asked a lot. For many people, this will be their first time attending a single’s night, and it isn’t rare to not have a notion of what it’s all about.

Dublin’s best Single’s night usually entails:

  • Meeting new people and breaking the ice
  • Having a boogie
  • Play some games
  • Giving yourself a confidence boost

It’s your chance to get out there and have some fun to kick off the weekend.

What to know if you’ve never been to a single’s night before!

Now that you know what we do, you’ll want to understand what goes on and what to expect when you come. Some people say that before their first time they feel like a “bag of nerves”, but after the evening comes to a close, they’re eager to find out when the next event is on so they can go back and have fun again.

When you arrive, you’ll meet Ciara, our organiser extraordinaire who looks after everyone and gets you registered. We also have a lovely MC who oversees the action and makes sure everyone is having a good time. If you have any worries or don’t know what to be doing, go and chat with the MC; they’ll be happy to help you settle in and meet some new folk.

What age do you have to be to attend McGowan’s Single’s Night?

We don’t have any age restrictions on who can come along.

As it’s Friday night, most people are finished work for the week, and our crowd tends to be mid-20s to early 40s.

With some people on either end of that range, we have a policy that everyone is welcome, no matter their age.

How do you break the ice at a Single’s Night?

No one has to worry about mastering the art of conversation or having moves like Jagger to break the ice. Around the room, we have couples and team games all set up to get everyone talking to each other. We find that team games are great at helping even the most nervous guests relax and embrace the atmosphere, although it is completely fine to sit out games if you don’t feel comfortable.

Remember, we’re here to make sure you have a good time, not an awkward one.

When does Single’s Night start?

We get the ball rolling at 9 pm on the dot, and the place is usually busy before The Late Late Show starts on the telly (not that we have it on – would make for a bizarre night out).

Where does McGowan’s Single Night take place?

The events always take place upstairs. You’ll see the stairs as soon as you come in.

When does Single’s Night end?

We aim to wrap things up around midnight, so people can still get home quickly enough. A fair few like to stay here afterwards though and get to know each other better, and you’ll usually find people want to have a dance at that time of night anyway.

Is it a balanced event?

You’d hate to find yourself coming to a single’s night and seeing a ratio of 10:1 for one gender to another. We aim to have a balance in attendance and keep tabs on it by controlling how many people sign up.

Do I need to buy tickets for Single’s Night?

The event is free, but we do recommend you sign-up and register, which you can do so on Eventbrite here. It helps us know the balance for the evening.

We also have a group on Meetup here so you can get reminders.
