Finding love in the big city can feel daunting. There seems to be a zillion apps encouraging you to swipe to your heart’s content. Meeting other singles who want to have some fun can feel awkward when you’ve no clue where to go.
Luckily, there’s one spot in Phibs where, at least once a month, you’ll be able to have a chat and connect with other single people in a way that’s much more natural and enjoyable than speed or blind dating. McGowans’ legendary Singles Nights have returned, and we’re ready to help local singles mingle.
Meeting new people should be fun and lively without the pressure a typical first date can bring. If you’re up for it and want to see where Friday night takes you, get yourself along to the best singles night out in Dublin.
Below is a breakdown of what you need to know about Singles Night at McGowans.
When does Dublin’s best Singles Night take place?
Singles Night at McGowan’s takes place monthly, and we post announcements for each date on our socials! Usually, we announce the next singles night event one week after the last event. So, keep an eye out.
Where do singles meet in Dublin?
Upstairs at 18 Phibsboro Road Dublin 7 is where Dublin’s singles meet. If you don’t know where that is (spoiler alert), it’s upstairs, right here at McGowans!
What is a singles night?

This is a common question we get. For many people, this will be their first time attending a singles night, and it isn’t rare to have no idea what it’s all about.
Dublin’s best Singles Night typically consists of:
- Meeting new people and breaking the ice
- Having a boogie
- Play some games
- Giving yourself a confidence boost
It’s your chance to get out there and have some fun to kick off the weekend.
What to know if you’ve never been to a singles night before!
Now that you know what we do, you’ll want to understand what goes on and what to expect when you come along to one of our famous singles nights. Some people say that before their first time, they feel like a “bag of nerves”, but after the evening comes to a close, they’re eager to find out when the next event is on so they can go back and do it all again.
When you arrive, you’ll meet the event organiser who looks after everyone and gets you registered. We also have a lovely MC who oversees the action and makes sure everyone is having a good time. If you have any worries or don’t know what to do, go and chat with the MC; they’ll be happy to help you settle in and meet some new folk.
What age do you have to be to attend McGowan’s Singles Night?
We don’t have an upper limit; however, you must be over 21 to attend.
As it’s Friday night, most people have finished work for the week, and our crowd tends to be in the mid-20s to early 40s.
With some people on either end of that range, we have a policy that everyone is welcome, no matter their age.
How do you break the ice at a Singles Bar in Dublin?
No one has to worry about mastering the art of conversation or having moves like Jagger to break the ice. Around the room, we have couples and team games set up to get everyone talking to each other. We find that team games are great at helping even the most nervous guests relax and enjoy themselves, although it is completely fine to sit out of games if you don’t feel comfortable.
Remember, our goal is to make sure you have a good time, not an awkward one.
When does Singles Night start?
We get the ball rolling at 9pm on the dot, and the place is usually busy before The Late Late Show starts on the telly (not that we have it on – it would make for a bizarre night out).
Where does McGowan’s Singles Night take place?
The events always take place upstairs. The stairs are easy to spot, you’ll see them as soon as you come in.
When does Singles Night end?
The event starts with games and single mingling until 11 pm; then, you can stay for a boogie until 2:30 am. This way you have enough time to get to know somebody (and find out if they’re a good dancer or not!).
Is it a balanced event?
You’d hate to find yourself coming to a singles night and seeing a ratio of 10:1 for one gender to another. We aim to have a balance in attendance and keep tabs on it by controlling how many people sign up.
For the keenos, complimentary prosecco is provided for the first 50 people!
Do I need to buy tickets for Single’s Night?
Yes, tickets are essential for entry to the singles events. Grab yours from Eventbrite here. This will help us calculate the gender balance for the evening. We also have a group on Meetup here, so you can get reminders.
Tickets are on sale 3-4 weeks before each event takes place.
What else is on at McGowan’s?
Our Singles Nights are popular, but there’s far more going on at McGowans. See if you fancy any of our other fantastic events by exploring our what’s on page.
